Richard J Knaggs is the founder of Richard J Knaggs & Co Solicitors LLP. Richard set up the firm in 1983 and is a Solicitor, Principal of the firm and Head of the Property Department. Richard has many years experience in both commercial and residential property matters.
Richard has personally represented many celebrities and sports personalities in high profile cases within the industry including Geoffrey Boycott. He has advised clients across the full range of legal disciplines relevant to the sports sector. He has advised clients across the business of sport, with a particular focus on sports media, and negotiations of contracts with both television companies and newspapers.
Also, specialising in media contracts for celebrities with the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and ESPN and daily newspapers such as telegraph and The Sun. Richard has an in-depth knowledge and experience of the sports market, and his firm has a consistently commercial approach, which enables it to add real insight and value to clients and their objectives within the sector
Jayne Acklam joined Richard J Knaggs and co in October 2015 and was promoted to Partner in April 2018. Jayne studied law at Teesside University graduating in 1999. She completed the Bar Vocational Course in 2002 and was called to the Bar at Lincolns Inn the same year. Jayne also completed a Masters Degree in Advanced Legal Practice with commendation in 2007. In 2008 Jayne cross qualified as a solicitor and in 2014 was accredited to the Law Society Childrens Panel and Family Law Panel.
Jayne specialises in all aspects of family law. She has extensive experience in child protection and has been instructed in many complex care proceedings,representing parents and children in the County Court and High Court. Jayne is a strong advocate in private law proceedings. As well as offering fixed fee divorces Jayne also specialises in difficult divorces and the division of high value assets, domestic violence, issues involving Contact and residence and removal from jurisdiction as well as litigation and sexual abuse cases.
Jayne also provides advice in equine law. She is a keen horse rider and competes with her horse in dressage competitions. Jayne can offer legal advice including sales disputes, ownership disputes, personal injury and any other disputes arising from all aspects of horse ownership.
Stephanie Swales joined Richard J Knaggs & Co in September 2013 and has predominantly worked in the Conveyancing Department. Stephanie has worked in conveyancing for over 15 years within the local area and has a great relationship with all clients and local organisations.
After being promoted to Head of Conveyancing in 2016 Stephanie branched in to office management and was appointed Practice Manager at Richard J Knaggs & Co in September 2018.
Stephanie is responsible for quality control and compliance, office management, administrative systems, advertising and media in addition to being the practices Money Laundering Officer and IT specialist.
Stephanie demands and ensures a consistent high standard and has an in depth understanding of client care and service provision requirements.
David French joined Richard J Knaggs & Co Solicitors in June 2016 and is an experienced solicitor with over 45 years experience. David has spoken on local radio stations on numerous occasions providing legal advice relating to private client matters and has also been a legal advisor to a number of local and national charities. He has previously worked for a number of years as the head of the Property and Trust department for a large city firm.
David works within our Wills and Probate department. There are many things to consider and deal with following the death of a loved one and this can seem very daunting. David can give you advice on how to move forward at such a difficult time.

She is focused on developing and expanding the commercial department and offering a bespoke service to clients and commercial agents locally and further afield. Theresa Taylor first joined Richard J Knaggs & Co LLP in 2009 and has over 10 years experience in Conveyancing. Theresa is very knowledgeable and prides herself on providing a fast an efficient service to her clients. Theresa can assist all clients in their residential conveyancing needs and has experience in all areas of property law and will advise and guide you through the complex issues that you will experience when you move home ensuring the transaction is a smooth as possible. James Jeffels joined Richard J Knaggs & Co in November 2018 as a Paralegal and has a fantastic legal career ahead of him.
James graduated from Teesside University July 2018 with a 2.1 Law Degree and was awarded the Thompson Reuters Law Prize for an outstanding contribution to Law.
